YOUth DECIDE: Creating a culture of voting

YOUth DECIDE’s mission is to reach, register to vote, and educate students in civics and the importance of voting.  The vision is to create a culture of voting.

  • Partners with local public and private high schools and community colleges.

  • Engages youth in voter education, voter registration and getting out the vote.

  • Guided by League volunteers who are experienced educators.

LWVO YOUth DECIDE has developed materials to support student and faculty efforts to create a vibrant community-based culture of voting through student-led activities integral to civic engagement. ​YOUth DECIDE has been giving civic education presentations to 9th to 12th grade classes at Oakland high schools from 2018 to the present, including Bishop O'Dowd, Castlemont, College Preparatory School, Fremont, Oakland School for the Arts, Oakland Tech, Skyline, and Street Academy

After the presentations, we asked students what they learned about voting from the presentations and what issues they are concerned about.
