Alameda County District Attorney Candidate Forum

Alameda County Bar Association presents a forum to hear from the candidates who are running for Alameda County District Attorney. They will begin with moderated questions, and have invited the candidates to remain after to mingle in break out rooms. DAs in California have tremendous power over millions of people and entire communities. The DA--not the police--has the  sole power to decide if criminal charges are filed and the severity of those charges. The DA's office alone decides who should have a jail or prison sentence and who will instead be routed into a diversion program to help rebuild or have charges dismissed.The forum is co-sponsored by the six Alameda County Leagues of Women Voters (Alameda, Berkeley-Albany-Emeryville, Eden Area, Fremont-Newark-Union City, Oakland, and Piedmont.
