County Supervisors Meet on Sheriff Oversight April 28 10 a.m.

• Santa Rita Jail has the highest incidence of in-custody deaths in Northern California.  “An inmate at the Santa Rita Jail being held on a parole violation died last month, nearly a week after attempting suicide in his cell [East Bay Times, April 14, 2022]
• The US Justice Department recently found conditions  in the Alameda county jail violate constitutional rights and subject the 40% in custody who need mental health services to “unlawful harm.” Lawsuits are costing the county millions. Our county sheriff’s
• department needs a major transformation and ongoing oversight.
